Privacy Policy

MGB Patient & Family Resource

Last Revised: 5 August 2026

At Mass General Brigham, we are committed to protecting the privacy and security of the families we care for. This privacy policy ("Privacy Policy") will tell you what information the MGB Patient & Family Resource app ("the app") collects, how it is used, and your options as you use it. By using the app, you agree to this policy.

The app is provided by Mass General Brigham for Children ("we," "us") to share educational resources with parents and caregivers of hospitalized children.

This policy applies only to the app. It does not apply to your child's medical record, to the care your child receives, or to anything you discuss with your care team. Protected health information held by Mass General Brigham is separate and subject to our Notice of Privacy Practices under HIPAA.

Information we do not collect

The app has no accounts and no sign-in. We do not collect your name, your contact information, your health information, or any information about your child. Your saved items and your language preference are stored only on your device, in encrypted storage, and are never transmitted to us.

Anonymous usage statistics

The app uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregate statistics about how the app is used — for example, which resources are opened most often, how many results a search returned, and which screens are viewed. These events contain no personal information and no free text; the words you type or speak into search are never transmitted. Firebase assigns a randomly generated identifier to each app installation so that events can be grouped; it is not linked to your identity, and advertising identifiers are disabled. We use this information solely to improve the app's content and usability.

Optional feedback survey

The app includes an optional in-app survey. If you choose to complete it, we receive your numeric ratings together with a randomly generated identifier for your app installation, the role you selected (for example, family member or staff), the hospital unit, campus and care-stage settings the app is configured for, and the app and survey version. The survey contains no free-text fields and no information that identifies you. It is stored on our Supabase backend solely to help us improve the app.

If you instead email feedback to us, that email is composed and sent from your own mail app. It includes whatever you choose to write, along with your email address. Please do not include any personal health information in it.

Voice search

If you choose to use voice search, your speech is converted to text by your device's own speech recognition. The app does not record or transmit audio. Voice search is entirely optional; the app is fully usable without granting microphone access.

Content delivery

The app periodically downloads updated educational content over an encrypted connection. These requests carry no information about you.

Children

The app is intended for use by adult caregivers and hospital staff, not by children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

Mass General Brigham has the right to change or update this Privacy Policy from time to time without notice, so please review it periodically to keep informed of any changes. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new revision date.
